AOCC 2008 Roundup: Team China Outshone 19 Other Countries to Claim Prestigious Title of AOCC 2008 Champions

The international event, Advanced Overclocking Championship 2008 (AOCC 2008), successfully concluded on the 29th of July, 2008 after two intense days of competition at the G/F Exhibition Area, Dragon Centre, West Kowloon, Hong Kong. Over 3,000 people attended the 2-day affair, and bore witness to the contestants from China – Xu Gang & Susie – attaining the coveted title of Champions of AOCC 2008!

Xu Gang and Susie, a Chinese duo that has snared the top spot in many overclocking competitions over an illustrious 4-year career, emerged victorious to take home the title of AOCC 2008 Champions. They bested 38 other contestants from 19 countries, emerging first in all 3 categories of the competition and claiming the prestigious award.

"It is a great honor for us to win the Championship, and we think that constant practice and upgrading on overclocking knowledge are key factors that contributed to our victory,” an overjoyed Xu Gang and Susie said. “In addition, the components that were used for overclocking were vital, and we found that ASUS’ hardware; and all other components from the different sponsors of AOCC, were exceptionally stable and top-notch in terms of quality. Overclocking is increasing in popularity back in China, and we think that about 1%-2% of the whole population are currently overclocking today!"

Team Hong Kong Focuses on Challenges Ahead
Lok Wang Chun and Cheung Lik Wan make up Team Hong Kong, and this year marked the very first occasion that Hong Kong has participated in AOCC. With over 5 years of overclocking experience and winning championship titles, the duo were ruing the fact that they had lost in their bid to pull off a win in this competition. However, the plucky duo felt honored to just have participated in this event, and made a vow to perform better at the AOCC 2009 competition next year.

Day 2 Conclusions
On day two of AOCC, contestants were split into teams based on their forte, in an attempt to try and break the world record for overclocking. Out of these teams, the team made up of elmor and crotale from Team Sweden, Sampsa and SF3D from Team Finland and Team Italy’s giogioprimo stood out with their attempt which was a hair’s breath away from breaking the world record.

The two-day event culminated with the prize giving ceremony, which was presided over by Terence Lee, Business Development Manager of VR-Zone. Representatives from all of the sponsors were also present. These included: Benson Lin, General Manager of ASUS APAC and Taiwan Sales Group, Judy Chen, APAC Platform Engineer, Intel Microelectronics Asia Limited, Jeff Yen, APAC Technical Marketing Manager from nVidia Corporation, Jane Cheng, APAC Alliance Manager from Kingston Technology Corporation and Eddy Chen, Associate Supervisor from FSP Group.

The hardware used over both days of the competition comprised top-notch products from ASUS, Intel, nVidia, Kingston, FSP and Western Digital. These components included the premium Intel® P45 Express Chipset-equipped ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe motherboard with Express Gate, a feature which allows users to go from bootup to online quickly without having to enter the operating system. Other top-rated hardware included the fastest graphics card on the market today, the ASUS ENGTX280, which utilizes the nVidia GeForce GTX 280 GPU for maximum performance. Kingston also sponsored HyperX DDR3 modules which are specifically engineered and designed to meet the rigorous requirements of PC enthusiasts, while Western Digital provided WD VelociRaptor 10,000 RPM SATA hard drives featuring a SATA 3GB/s interface and 16 MB cache, which are capable of delivering performance up to 35% faster than previous models. About AOCC 2008
Contestants for the Advanced Overclocking Championship 2008 hailed from 20 countries all over the world, including: Australia, China, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Portugal, South Africa, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the UK, the US, and Hong Kong – with a total field of 40 participants. Contestant ages range from 18 to 50 years old – bearing testament to how overclocking enthusiasm goes beyond age limitations.

Mr. Terence Lee, Business Development Manager of VR-Zone – a renowned computer website and organizer of AOCC 2008 – had this to say about the event: “AOCC is not just a competition that pits participants against each other.
